Counselling Programs

Counselling services are offered at the Aulneau Renewal Centre. In general, the clients seen at the centre fall into two broad categories, adults & couples and children & families.

The adult and couples programs were initiated in 1979 in response to the needs identified by the Missionary Oblate Sisters for community based, affordable counselling to help individuals and couples work through their difficulties and be renewed in mind, heart, body and spirit.

The child and family counselling programs, initiated in 1998, are community-based responses designed to assist and to strengthen families and children who are struggling. The healthy development of children is at risk when early experiences at home and at school do not provide adequate care, secure, loving relationships, and educational experiences needed to build social and learning skills. The child and family counselling programs assist disadvantaged families in their efforts to create protective home environments for their children. The programs include both long and short-term individual counselling sessions for children and parents, dyad work for parents and young children, family or group counselling sessions and parenting workshops.

The objectives of the programs are to promote personal growth and self-reliance for adults, children and families so that they can become more functional and autonomous, develop life and social skills, and improve their parenting capacities. Objectives also include assisting families and individuals in accessing resources from other parts of the social services network, and collaborating with other community-based organizations towards the goals of compassion, actualization and transformation.
